Today I was doing some idle tidying up and I decided I wanted to clean off the top of my Mac Mini. Months ago I had stuck a post-it note to it and the residue from the adhesive didn’t want to come off. I tried wiping it down with a general purpose cleaner, picking at it for a while but it just wasn’t coming off. I don’t know where it came from but I remembered something about using a normal white pencil eraser to clean off plastic. Well I tracked down a white eraser and just started rubbing at it like it was a pencil mark and sure enough within seconds all the glue residue was gone. This should work for any type of hard plastic like an old MacBook or fith or older generation iPod.

Brilliant idea
I think I will have to try it out!
a small amount of WD-40 works as well.
I’ve never tried the WD-40 but I know Brasso for silver worked REALLY well on the 3rd gen iPods it even took out small scratches
What works for me is to put a new sticker over the residue, and pulling it off.
The old residu will stick to the sticker better than to the plastic casing.
You may have to put it on and pull it off repeatedly, but it works perfectly.
Adhesive tape works equally well.
The advantage over solvents is that the surface is not affected in any way.
My experience with solvents is that the surface gets dull.
ank you so much! I have an iPhone case that’s really tight, which is wonderful but I need one of these to get it open. Anyone know if the eBay ones are as good as the other two sources mentioned?
