Up to now I have used 8 plugins and am plesantly surprised with the extensions. Mozilla Firefox has always lagged and the plugins are more stable than FF. It might also be that Google uses a smart way to make their online products desktop app-like. For example, a lot of Twitter apps for Windows are made in Adobe Air, which acts somewhat like an executable website. Consider what you use your computer for: How much of that can't be done with web applications? Google seems to be aiming for a web-centric OS, somewhere between personal computing and cloud computing. When the work is done in the cloud, there isn't as much requirement for raw power in a unit.
